In 1985 a group of Lucindale locals ventured to Nagles Park, Keith to watch dirt racing for the first time, they returned with the idea to build a track and form a dirt kart racing club at Lucindale.
With help from locals and the Lucindale Council, an abandoned quarry site 7kms south east of the town on the Naracoorte to Lucindale road became the home of the Lucindale Karting Club. Many hours of volunteered labour and equipment went into the formation of the new club and the club held its inaugural general meeting on the 1st of October in 1985 and raced at their first race meeting on 20th July 1986.
Locally, the sport has grown considerably over the years. The great family environment and friendly, but competitive, atmosphere has seen membership numbers grow steadily over the years. Most of the new drivers are juniors with participants being able to race from 7 years of age. Since the staging of the 2005 State Titles, the club has grown from having 30 members to now having 107 with over half of these being drivers. The club has historically and continues to produce well known drivers with numerous members being current or previous SA and Australian Title plates holders.
