The Brown family racing karts extends back to the late 60’s. It all began with May and Crawford Brown out for a Sunday afternoon drive in the Adelaide Hills. Whilst passing through the country town of Oakbank, there was a Bitumen kart race meeting in progress. The pair dropped in, had a look and purchased a race kart the following week.
Crawford went on to win 2 Australian AKA Championships, namely1968 (A Limited) and 1970 (125Open.)Crawford also raced on the dirt in the late 80’s early 90’s.
Allan, their son started racing in 1970 at the age of 12 enjoying the sport with much success along the way. As a result of keen interest in the family, in 1979 the business was born, importing Italian DAP Karts and Engines.
The 1980 Australian Championships at Brooklyn, VIC was a memorable year as Allan won the 200cc Open and Denise, his wife, winning Ladies 100cc Open both with the help of Denise’s father Sam Bright.
During the 80’s Allan won 5 Australian AKA Championships, also racing overseas in Europe and Hong Kong.
As the family success continued, in 1995 Allan’s son Ben, started racing in Rookies on the Dirt in SA.
Since then BRK has formed a key position in Dirt Racing Karts.
Ben has won 14 Dirt Kart Australian Titles and over 30 State Titles in Junior and Senior categories.
BRK’s Kart Shop opened in 2004 with Karts, Engines and Spare parts.
2018 sees Ben running the shop on a daily basis, along with Allan, Denise, Kelly and long time friend of the family Dave Sutton. We also now have onboard Keaton Szach & Lochie Kendrick. Crawford is still involved as the BRK courier.
As a family unit, we look forward to passing on some of our many years of knowledge and assisting you with product selection for your Kart.
