Remember it is the Australian Superkart Championship and should always be referred to as this, well that's what it says in the Sporting Regs. The Nationals is that event run for the 125 NGB and possibly the 125 Stock Honda class, it is run for and by the Clubs not a private company.
All the drivers seemed to be well co-ordinated today since there were 2 appointed girls (Pam and Barb) to do the pacing up and down the carports and keep everybody informed on when the next session was ready to be run. Day 1, job well done.
Congrats to Russel for winning all four races that was an awesome effort and I think the last time that was done was Sam in 09 at the creek. Bummer about so many pace car laps in the last race but you never know the circumstances from home. I must say the telecast on the net was great, the racing looked fantastic and updates from Mark Jones was fantastic.
The last heat safety car was because of an accident involving three or more karts. The ambulance had to go out to one of the drivers causing a further delay, when this was all cleaned up another kart stopped in nearly the same position so they sent out the truck to clear him. This was all done as quick as possible, the restart after the safety car was great and all the race control stood and clapped, after the fiasco of the second heat restart. Something that a lot of people forgot was the difference between a rolling start and a safety car restart, the first one caused people to want to protest, which they withdrew after it was proved that nothing could be proved.
Tim we are looking at running four karts, one for an overseas driver. I would imagine Raff and Scotty Appledore will run too. I believe a certain Aussie twin champ is also running a Yamaha at the event plus Dan Lewis has indicated to me he's competing. Add in yourself mate and you have all the major players at the one event!! Would have to be potentially the biggest field of Nationals anywhere this year. Might even attract Bigfoot out of hibernation!! Lol
My money is on a Yeti riding the Lockness Monster in Bass Straight.
Trying to get the Crisp boys down there also. They have 3 Gas Gas powered 250 Nationals in their team. Steve Murray should be ready by then in his Kelgate kitted PVP with a new 2016 spec Gas Gas also. What about you Brooksy?????
I went to print off the poster and stick it up in our brew room and just noticed that NSW does not have their club logo on the poster? Is there a printing mistake?
Me too. Got it wrong 17th. As of last week I know S/Honda had 10 Which is great for the class. NGB was good the other gearbox classes weren't to bad either, but like i said that was last week.
And congratulations to the respective class winners, pending any post race changes I'm not aware of? Some photos are also attached below. If anyone has any of Brad Stebbing or Jordan Ford on the podium please send them through to mikewayneracing@gmail.com as I'd like to update the Facebook page with a complete set.
250 International - Gary Pegararo 250 National - Jordan Ford 125 Gearbox - Brad Stebbing 125 Stock Honda - Tim Clarke 125 Non-Gearbox Light - Russ Occhipinti 125 Non-Gearbox Heavy - Rod Clarke
Sounds like it was a great event. The local lads from up here enjoyed themselves except the hypothermia part. I am sure they will be back next year as they will have 12 months to thaw out.
Thanks Gavin, We TRY and make the meeting as enjoyable and affordable as possible for all competitors. We VERY much appreciate the support of all entrants and the time they give to support this valuable meeting.
So with the Victorian Superkart Club "Nationals" event having over 60 entries and the private company 3 round "Nationals" only getting mid 20's, is it the general opinion that the Australian Superkart tribal council have spoken which one they prefer? Interested on everyone's thoughts.
The private company has done a great job in running a series for the big boys. As a NGB competitor our preference would be a two or three round series where ALL superkart classes are represented. First preference would be for the clubs to work together on a ALL IN series but the private company can also make it work.
Makes sense to have an entry fee of $670 x 3 times and a $50 joining fee to the private company ... add $1,500 per round travel, accomodation, tyres , kart repairs and an NGB competitor has just spent more to race 3 events than his whole outfit cost to buy !!
Look at the numbers and since SKA took on the role the worst case scenario any of us would have wished for is the sport goes nowhere, does nothing , gets no promotion and the numbers stay the same. For an input in excess of $45,000 by the drivers who did the series we got all of the above -- with the bonus that the numbers have fallen all across the country. And they have spent that much and the numbers have done that for each and every one of the years the SKA ran the show.
Someone needs to say this ..... the SKA experiment did not benefit us in any way and cost a lot of people a bucketload of money.. ... not 5 years ago SA had a regular 12 to 14 competitors in the 250cc classes, and a smattering of 125 GB's. Yesterday we had 4 in total at Mallala and only one was left running by the end of the day.
We cannot afford to go on like this and the "cost" is a big point. Neville nowhere won't attend, but yet he still wants to race the best in the land.
We've had to drop the minimum number from 10 to 5. In the past it was four rounds then one in 2002. 2002 had something like 117 entries. We're back to multiple rounds and the number keep falling.
One sport, one nationals, one event.
As to who runs it I'll keep that away here, lets get over step one first.
I cannot agree with what you have written and if it was in the Members Only section, I would not comment but for the sake of new members reading this forum, I will.
The SKA is a not a faceless private identity praying on the Superkart teams like you and some others like to paint them. They are a group of people who love the sport of Superkarting and give willingly for the betterment of our sport. Everyone knows who they are and they are respected for giving their time, effort and sponsorship to the sport. It would be hard to find a decent entrant in the SKA events who would not appreciate these people’s dedication and selflessness. While, the SKA events might not be the level of motorsport that everyone wants to run at, there are a core group of Superkart teams that do like the SKA events – for these teams, they accept the costs/benefits and enter the events – that is their choice!
As for the SKA causing the decline in the sport of Superkarting - this is a world-wide problem in each country that has a Superkart presence currently. They reasons are many and varied; and most have already been discussed on this forum but to lay the blame on the SKA appears to be more personal than factual.
There is no doubt that the cost of Supekarting has risen in the last 12 years. Motorsport in general has been become a lot more commercial than previously and that is not going to change in the future. The cost of a CAMS licence has risen substantially in the last few years but I have not seen one comment of the forum casting any blame for this reducing the numbers – why is that?
Hi Rolf, Which part of my comment are you referring to?
"One sport, one nationals, one event." means to me that you want to see the current SKA structure changed - and how would you do this in the current political climate without dividing the sport more?

Now that only five entrants are required it is a Nationals.

WHO does that for Phillip Island except maybe in February.
Even then I pack a jumper long pants and a raincoat.
Rookie mistake. ;D
And Mike? Image sent.
Once we have verified all results and the "protest time" elapses we'll publish the complete results.

Re: Nationals
Re: Nationals
If you take out the 125 Non-Gearbox entries, it isn't all that different.
I think what the event actually proved is that we need to represent all of our classes at our national events. Then we look like a serious sport.
