Hi Guys
First blood in the first round of the 2014 BMSA British Championship, held at the Oulton Park circuit, went to Paul Platt in his Redspeed PVP/Honda CR250 using Hoosier R60A CIK homologated slicks supplied by Viper Racing UK. Congratulations to Paul and his team on qualifying on Pole position, 2 resounding race victories and setting a new lap record.

Various other competitors tried the Hoosier slicks for the first time including Viper Racing team members, Toby Davis who finished 3rd and Mark Stanfield who finished 5th in the Championship standings going into round 2.
Here’s a link to results. It was a mixed grid of karts with staggered starts, but the classes are shown on the results sheets:

The new engines (Viper, THR and DEA) were all present, but the Viper was withdrawn after Friday testing, as a new exhaust and regulation airbox was found suspect, with dyno work being necessary. Both the THR and DEA competed but with issues. I think the large gap to the second round will be well used by all to make improvements.
There were high none starter/attrition rates in both races. From our point of view we lost Tony Pinder (1st race accident and didn't take part in 2nd due to kart damage and foot injury) and Adam Edgecombe in race 2 with a broken rear wheel hub. Ben Davis had a crankshaft break, the ignition end falling off level with the oil seal!!
Louis Wall who was right on the pace, retired from both races with minor problems (wire breakage, etc.)
Best Regards
Ian :)

So in simple English Ian, are you saying CIK Hoosier runners finished 1, 3, 5?
Did they have positive feedback to share on the tyre and how did the wear visually look after the meeting?
Re: MSA British Championship - Round 1, Oulton Park
Yes, Hoosiers 1st, 3rd and 5th.
Tyres have completed morning warm-up, quali, 2 x 15 min races and are "good-to-go" for round 2 quali at Silverstone in June.
Paul suffered some slight graining of the right-front caused at the off-camber Cascades bend (we think), but the harder working left-front (Oulton Park is a clockwise circuit) was perfect.
Wear rate was very good and flat across the tyres.

How did Cadwell Park go? :)
Re: MSA British Championship - Round 1, Oulton Park
Cadwell was just a "clubbie", so many of the big-hitters weren't there. We couldn't run the Viper SK250S as we are (still!!) waiting for our new pistons. Very frustrating!!!! >:(
The Anderson/DEA of Gavin Bennett ran well without any major problems and took the 2 race wins.
Trevor Roberts took 1 x 2nd and 1 x 3rd with his (slightly off usual pace) Raider/Honda
Aaron Sifleet took 1 x 3rd and 1 x 4th on his Anderson/GasGas.
Charlie Johnson who scored a 2nd in the first race, looked set to make it 2 x 2nds after leading for 3 laps in the second race on his Anderson F450 KTM, before being demoted to 2nd by Gavin Bennett and then having the chain snap in the latter part of the race.
The quicker of the 2 GasGas' (The Raider/Honda of Mark Gellatly) was sidelined when coming out onto track for the 1st race with a suspected clutch failure and they didn't manage to get it repaired for the 2nd.
THR were running their new engine and trying a few different things, but didn't have the best of days.
Should be interesting though in a couple of weeks at round 2 of the British Champs at Silverstone.
Lots of rumours about who is going to be running what, etc. With current British Champion, Paul Platt, rumoured (but not confirmed ;) ) to have taken delivery of a GasGas.

Re: MSA British Championship - Round 1, Oulton Park
Always keen to hear about the 250 single class. :) Sorry to hear about the pistons :'(
Hard to get track time and when you have it .... can't use it.
Yes, looks like Gavin had a good day without any serious challengers - what is the Lap record for the circuit?
When you say Gas Gas, is this complete EVO motor or the GAS GAS topend for the CR250?
regards
Allan. :)
Re: MSA British Championship - Round 1, Oulton Park
Difficult to determine the comparitive pace as we were running with bikes who have a chicane between Mansfield and the bottom of The Mountain. This is usually taken out for the karts (with a good lap time being in the 1:25's), however for the first time ever it was left in for us and it appears added about 4-5 seconds, but a shame that we hadn't anything to really compare against.
I got the feeling that Gavin was probably around the pace we normally would see from the likes of Paul Platt, James O'Reilly, The Davis brothers, Sam Moss (who was driving his 125 in this race), Dan Clark, Louis Wall, etc. Of course non of those guys being present.
The GasGas motors running in the UK are 2014 spec Wiwa 250K's with the new 5-speed box required for the UK.
As I say, a clearer picture will start to emerge at Silverstone.
Best Regards
Ian :)

Yes, I agree with you Ashley; very professional.
It is nice to see the PVP kart presences keeping the Anderson Supporters honest - competitiveness improves the breed as the saying goes. :)
