Hi all, some upgrades for the Rotax Max engines are coming. The changes will have to be put in the STR's. For your information at this point. Customer document attached for your viewing.
Announced today that the Rotax Max EVO engines and parts will be released in Australia on March 31st. The AKA plan to do their testing after that date and allow the engines into competition as from June 1st.
Someone had better get their thinking caps on and make a plan as to how to test/compare these to the current engines within CAMS / AASA.
Anyone thinking of buying a new engine can still purchase the current models , and when the EVO is released they will receive the "externally visible" upgrade parts free of charge.
As of tomorrow, you will be able to order a complete Rotax Max EVO upgrade kit as the rest of the parts have arrived. Reduced pricing on all EVO upgrade kits and components are only till May 31st 2015 then normal pricing will start 01/06/15
No ............. the EVO engines complete are not allowed, at least under CAMS.
Ashley was just pointing out that they are available.
All of my posts above and all of my correspondence to my local club has been about what is the process for testing and evaluating this updated engine ??
So far not a response from anyone.
By my understanding of the current CAMS rules, the new exhaust pipe, exhaust manifold , crankshaft ( minus the conrod ) and pistons are allowed. None of these items' part numbers are listed in the STR's, and they are genuine parts supplied by BRP. The rest of the new kit components are listed , but only by the previous part numbers hence the EVO carby parts, ignition, wiring and power valve are not permitted.
For anyone interested, the SA club has sent around a proposed update to the rules to allow the EVO engines and spare parts to be raced.
There are some EVO parts that already replace the earlier model ones totally, so these changes need to be sorted and agreed and put to CAMS so that we do not fall behind with this class.
The new EVO engines are the only complete engines to be supplied going forward from now.
For those drivers wishing to know what the EVO parts will do to performance, we have raced both the junior and senior versions on sprint track and they are running with an extra 5kg weight on the EVO's over the earlier versions.
So far that weight penalty seems to be making the old engines and the new EVO's competitive with one another. I would think that if we introduce them to Superkarts the same 5kg penalty should apply. It might take 12 months racing and more than just one or two new EVO's out there to see if that is really where we end up.
