Hi Guys
I'll run this topic for the forseeable future with regard to the development of our engine(s) and anything that might be of general interest to 250 National drivers related to all things Viper.
So as at 3rd December 2013 the registration papwerwork is submitted to the British MSA. Currently we are only able to release images off the 3D-models and below find the left and right side views of the engine!

The plan now is to have the first engine complete and built before Christmas and the other 9 kits required for registration ready before the closing date.
Best Regards
Ian :)

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Here is an image of the Honda "donor parts" required to build any of the new engines, which are all based around the Honda case-reed motor primary drive/clutch/selector mechanism and transmission.

We can supply these components in brand new or part new/part used reconditioned format from stock. We would always recomend new bushes, thrust washers and circlips in the trans, a new clutch basket and plates and new wearing parts like gear selector pawls and any bearings. Generally the gears and shafts are pretty bullet-proof. New is always best, but not always possible due to budget constraints.
The gears on the left are our alternative ratios and you can see they are Superfinished.
We are also able to Superfinish the whole of the geartrain/selector mechanism, if the customer wishes.

The engine can also be offered in 6-speed format if required (only new parts of course at present). This isn't applicable for the UK, were F250 National is limited to 5-speed only (with the exception is the Rotax 257 in 6-speed format), although there are non currently running at long circuit in the UK. Here's a picture of our 6-speed transmission:

The engine can be supplied as a self-build kit, with or without the Honda parts or can be built by us using the customers own donor parts or new/reconditioned parts supplied by us.
Best Regards
Ian :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
What is the cost of the new donor parts both 5 speed and 6 speed?
Any updates on the progress of the SK250S motor?
Regards
Allan.

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
The motor looks good in the flesh - When do we get to see a dyno curve of the new motor? :)
regards
Allan.
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
We're hoping that the SK250S will have it's first outing on track at Oulton Park on Feb 18th, so around that time we should be ready to release a dyno-graph or 2.
What matters of course is how it stacks up against the opposition. Never seen a dyno fitted to a racetrack ;)
Best Regards
Ian :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
I would expect that most of the motor manufacturers will need to develop their packages during the first year to find parity and reliability with the competition. :-X
I have no doubt that if the manufacturers do a good job, there will be a market for the motor as it should have a very good performance to cost ratio. ;)
From my point of view, I will be watching with interest for the following year. :D
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Does your 6 speed option for the EVO motor use the CR250 5 speed gear set or do you have to purchase a different gearset from the start?
regards
Allan.
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
The 6 speed gearset is totally bespoke. Not a Honda part in there (except for some shims!!)
Shafts, gears, forks, drum all 100% British made!
A £2,000 outright purchase to go in a Honda CR250 crankcase induction/Viper SK250S or as a £1,300.00 upgrade on a new engine package of either variety.
Our registration inspection is at 2.30pm tomorrow (Friday 31st Jan).
Best Regards
Ian :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
What does that mean for the EVO motor manufacturers - if you are not there; your motor is not homolagated?
Regards
Allan.
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
It's registration not homologation, but that amounts to the same thing, but Yes, that's correct.
The MSA (British Motorsports Association) registration consists of 2 parts:
1. Paperwork submitted (must have been completed by 01.12.13)
2. Inspection (must have been completed by 31.01.14)
Once both parts have been successfully completed, the Engine will be registered with the MSA as an eligible F250 National Engine for the period 2014 and 2015.
Our 6-speed option cannot be MSA registered as UK F250 National is a 5-speed class.
Best Regards
Ian :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Do you have a price list for the spare parts such as piston, cylinder, crank kit ..etc
regards Allan.
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Most of the common spares prices are on the first link after the 3 photos above.
I will be formulating a CR250 conversion kit price over the next couple of weeks once exhaust testing/development is complete.
That will be:
1. Overall Kit price
2. Cylinder Head/Insert
3. Cylinder c/w studs, nuts and bolts
4. Piston Kit - £155.00
5. Exhaust Stub
6. Crankshaft
7. Exhaust
Best Regards
Ian :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Will the SK250 cylinder/crank fit into the standard CR250 cases?
Regards
Allan.
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Yes they will. We've been running that format with Mark Stansfield since just after midd 2013 helping us to develop those parts for the SK250S

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
BIG day today testing the new SK250S, we are all awaiting the latest news - 75HP and lap records broken .. :o :o :D :D
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
The dyno out of action for best part of a week, and jsut a general lack of time, ensured that we were not ready to hit the track.
On the positive side, the rubber stamp of MSA approval has been received for both the SK250S and the EVO250S engines.
Here's an image of the bare crankcases, by way of compensation!!

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Thanks for the photos - looks like a strong set of cases.
Can you give us an idea of the performance of the SK250S compared to the CR250 yet?
Regards
Allan.
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
What has happen to the MSA forum, my link no longer works has it moved?
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
No not yet. Soon as I feel it's appropriate, I'll post up the info.
I think you mean the BSA forum. Just died the death.
Facebook Superkart Drivers Page has really taken over, I suppose: https://www.facebook.com/groups/534983186517728/

Ian :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Here's a picture of the Viper SK250S installed in Mark Stansfield's chassis.
Still quite a few jobs to complete, but hoping to start running in the next day or two.

Thanks for the photo :) - we are looking forward to hearing the good news :).
Interesting looking pipe - short back Cone :-\

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
I see that the perspective got you fooled!! :D
Without wanting to give too much away . . . . . . . . .
It's the girth that's "unusual" rather than the section lengths ;)

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Now, that is even more interesting - looking forward to seeing the results ;D
It is great to see some strong development going on in the Single (National) class for 2014.
I bet Ant is burning your ears lately - I would be when you are this close to hearing the baby cry ;D
Ian, I hope you put a Youtube Video up of it's screams with that megaphone :D :D
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Hope to be on You Tube within 48 hrs.

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
Alan, do you think that a Viper SK250S will find a home at the Gold Coast soon?
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
I hope I am not talking out of class but it might be best if ask Ant that question ??? -
Regards
Allan.

Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
How is the dyno testing going on the new motor? Would love to be tuning that one on the dyno with you - must be a lot of fun! :)
Re: Viper Racing UK SK250S - Engine Information
All is going well, but it takes forever, having to keep existing customers happy as well. We have been and always are exceptionally busy leading up to this time of year.
Apologies to our very understanding customers for any delayed orders. I believe that we ship out our 2 (well one and a half!!)outstanding Aus orders on Tuesday of next week. One is ready to go and the other will be finished tomorrow.
We are currently testing with our first production cylinders. Previously we have been using 3D Laser Sintered (DMSL) prototypes. This first customer batch of 10 will be all hand finished to whatever spec we find is best and we have another 5 on which we will do all the testing and run on the dyno/track for our team motors.
We are also maximising on pipe design, carburation, ignition and combustion vol/squish. As you well know everything is interlinked, so we start with "scatter testing" and gradually focus in and optimise. As you can image this is hundreds of options and dyno runs, but I'd say we are about 90% right-now.
Our first full production batch of pistons should be with us prior to our next track outing at Cadwell Park on the 18th May, but if not prior to the 2nd round of the National champs at Silverstone 2 weeks later.
So all things being well customer engines will be released for shipment by the end of May. I believe it's silly to rush, rather than give the customer a well finished, reliable and tested product, that we fully understand. After all, it is our reputation on-the-line.
I know everyone waits not only to see track performance, but dyno figures. As soon as I think it pertinent (say when we hit 95% of our accepted SIM or exceed our Hondas by 5% on realistic race settings), I'll release some graphs. What I will say is that everything is looking absolutely fantastic. We of course expected some teething problems, but so far have exceeded all expectation.
Best Regards
Ian :)
